I picked it up today but it was pissing down with rain all day so I couldn't get any nice photos of it, I got the front in the garage so I could pop the strutbrace on anyway. Note the nasty looking corroded rocker cover... this will need attention at some point.

Within a few weeks I decided to paint the cam covers. Not a hard job just pop out the torx bits and a lick of HT red paint and its sorted. I would have polished the covers but this requires more maintenance so the paint will do and the colour happens to match the strutbrace. Note: when you take the covers off make sure you don't drop anything in with the cams because if you don't notice and start the engine with it still in there you can do serious damage.

After my run down the strip I came to the conclusion I wanted to see how much I could get out of the car without spending a lot on it. A ram air kit is a cheap easy modification that does actually give a bit more go. Especially as the air intake is sealed away from the rest of the hot air in the engine bay.

After driving with the ram air kit for some time, although the engine note is now gorgeous, revealing a deep low rumbling from under the bonnet which isn't intrusive, I did however notice that when sitting in traffic performance was dropping off a lot. This turned out to be due to the chrome induction pipe going from the scoop to the throttle body getting pretty damn hot. this was solved by insulating it with some ally flexible tube. It works a treat and keeps the pipe cold to the touch even in the hottest weather.

A whole 3 days of work on the car results in new driveshaft oil seals, new gearbox oil with some slick50, Powerflex front wishbone bushes, new anti-roll bar drop-links, lower suspension strut-brace, new OMP drilled and grooved balanced discs and fast road pads, and finally a coat of paint on the callipers just to make them look a bit nicer and less crusty and some black on the McPherson strut. Note the middle two photos showing the alternator belt tensioner adjustment screw which has a shagged hex head due to some previous dick trying to adjust it with one of the clamp bolts not slackened no doubt, although I could have bought a new part I chose to fix it with a nut welded on the end.

Recently I noticed the engines water temperature was never coming up unlike the oil temp. However when stopping in traffic I noticed the temp would come up to normal levels, this suggested the thermostat was stuck open so after purchasing a new one I spent a Saturday replacing it and it all works fine again now.

To make working in the engine bay easier I have changed the strutbrace to one which fits over the rear of the bay. Not only does this look cleaner but allows me to work in the engine bay without removing it.

Coming up soon hopefully a 4-2-1 stainless steel manifold and full group N rally exhaust system. Should give a little more go and save a lot of weight too.
